Mana Crystals are the Magical Macgoven of the story. Originally they were used to seal the portal to the Demon Realm. They are self replicating at their source. They lose the ability to replicate when they are removed from their node. As power is absorbed from the portal they slowly start to replicate and replenishing themselves.

When removed from the node the can act as a power source. And many products can be created using these mana crystals as a source.

Unfortunately the use of them as a power source increases the ambient mana around them, which causes corruption.

They are also used to 'Level Up' the magical girls. The magical girls can use them to increase the area they're capable of fighting in, or to give themselves special abilities. The magical girls can also use them to increase their attributes by absorbing them.

Types of Mana Crystals:

* Discharged - Used up Mana Crystal, usually ground up and disposed of. But also form the basis of a Magical Girl's crystal.
* Charged (Demonic) - Crystals recently harvested from the Demonic Portal Plug. These will slowly discharge over time, or they will discharge quickly if used. Used as the basis for the world's technology. The further away from the world they get the faster they discharge.
* Charged (Purified) - A discharged crystal that the Magical Girl has filled with her own mana. To be used either for a combat mana boost, or for making other types of crystals. These can also be used to power technology, they don't drain as fast (1/4 the speed), and they don't drain faster the further away from the world they are. They can also hold more power. So the corporations want to grab as many of these as possible.
* Area Supply Crystals - When a Magical Girl is in the area of the crystals she will get a certain amount of magical regeneration. Since her magical girl outfit is mana powered, she will need to make sure there are a lot of crystals hidden around the city to provide her with power. They also have the effect of draining ambient mana from an area and helping to reduce corruption
* Skill Providing Crystals - These when paired with Area Supply Crystals will allow the magical girl to use special abilities in the area. Not only will the abilities cost Mana Points, but will also have to recharge off the Area Supply Crystals. Reducing the mana recharge rate in that area.
* Attribute Enhancing Crystals - These crystals will need to be crafted by the magic girl to provide a boost to one of their abilities. The crafting cost won't be cheap. They will then have to absorb the crystal. As more crystals are absorbed the MG's corruption rises and will have to do more and more explicit acts to absorbs more crystals.
